Star Chamber

The Glasgow SF Writers Circle  is in congress tonight. Will some of the heroes of British sci-fi’s golden age be in attendence? Or maybe one of the authors shortlisted for the Prix Europeén Utopiales 2009?

And will I be there?

You weren’t, sorry to give away the ending, but neither was I, because I was at the Springsteen gig – three hours of brilliance, and they have no set list, he just gathers posters and banners and bits of cardboard from the crowd with song titles on them and plays the ones that takes his fancy. But looking forward to being back on the 28th.

I was too knackered in the end. It had been a tiring few days featuring, amongst other things, a visiting in-law who decided, on his own initiative, to cut down my neighbour’s hedge while I was at work. How we laughed! The Springsteen gig sounds like it was more fun, and I’m not even a fan.

Neither am I, but on the strength of all fifteen minutes of the half time show at this year’s Superbowl I decided to go along. Great energy, tight band, and a few songs I knew, even the Beatles one they threw in at the end.

    Did your neighbour laugh too?

No. And I’ve got a really good view of him now, so I’m absolutely certain.
