Robert Holdstock died at 4am this morning after a brief illness. We had recently interviewed him for Interzone and, as well as being one of the finest fantasy writers around, he was also a delight to work with. This is no surprise to anyone who’d had the good fortune of meeting him in person.

GSFWC writer Fergus Bannon now has his own site – plenty is still to be added to it, including testimony from some of the finest writers alive today, but you can already find Burning Brightly from Interzone 71 there.

Aliette de Boddard has been doing some research and it turns out that Interzone stories are eligible for the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America’s annual Nebula awards. This is because they are published online by Fictionwise. This should also apply to other magazines and publications that are available online, such as Jupiter, Dark Horizons and so on.

Books in the West is a new bookshop that opened last Friday in West Kilbride. The staff are friendly and informed and I recommend it to anyone in the area. In fact, I’ll even recommend it to anyone who’s not in the area.
